Report: Braves sign closer Robert Suarez to three-year, $45M contract

The right-handed reliever is set to join the Atlanta Braves’ bullpen on a three-year, $45-million contract, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Thursday.

Suarez, 34, locked down an NL-leading 40 saves for the San Diego Padres in 2025, and held their closer’s role for the entire season despite also trading for all-star Mason Miller and rostering Jeremiah Estrada.

The Venezuelan flamethrower debuted with San Diego in 2022 at the age of 31 and has registered 77 saves in 210 career innings, posting a 2.91 ERA with a 0.981 WHIP.

He signed a five-year, $46-million deal in 2023 that included a player opt-out after two seasons, which he used to become a free agent after making his second straight NL all-star team.

Before coming to the majors, Suarez spent parts of six years pitching in the NPB and Mexican Leagues, with a 2.73 ERA and 73 saves across all competitions.
