Ferencvaros V Rangers – Europa League Preview
It’s been pass-marks domestically for Danny Rohl in the Rangers dugout – but not so much in Europe where he’s yet to register a win. And it doesn’t get much easier now against Robbie Keane’s Ferencvaros who are going well in Hungary. The Ibrox side really need a win to stand any chance of sneaking into the Europa League playoff positions, and our writers have given their predictions over how it will go in Budapest.
- Scott McDermott – Robbie Keane’s side are back in form in their domestic league and have impressed in Europe this term. The Groupama Arena will be bouncing so it won’t be easy for Rangers. But Danny Rohl’s team have found a bit of rhythm and have tightened up, making them tougher to beat. They also look stronger away from home than at Ibrox so they can bring back a point from Hungary. Prediction: Ferencvaros 1 Rangers 1
- Andy Newport – Danny Rohl’s team found their scoring touch at Rugby Park but Europe has been a level too high for them so far this season. Robbie Keane’s unbeaten team are flying in sixth place and while Gers have made steps under their new gaffer, getting the away win that will keep them in the qualification hunt might be too much of ask against the inform Hungarians. Prediction: Ferencvaros 1 Rangers 1
- Keith Jackson – This entire Europa League campaign has been a write off for Rangers but Danny Rohl needs to build momentum wherever he can find it. Picking up a point on the road might help him do that even if, in reality, this is a must win match in terms of qualifying for the knock-out stages. Prediction: Ferencvaros 1 Rangers 1
- Gavin Berry – For Danny Rohl right now it’s all about building confidence and momentum. Realistically, they need a win to have any hope of progressing and it’s hard to see them getting that against Robbie Keane men who have lost just one of their last nine and boast some impressive results in Europe this season. But the Light Blues can battle to a point which they can at least build on for the more important challenge domestically. Prediction: Ferencvaros 0 Rangers 0
- Michael Gannon – Ferencvaros have been pretty tasty in this competition this season and the Groupama Arena can be fairly lively. Gers will have their work cut out and you worry about Danny Rohl’s side defensively. They need to hang tough and they could pinch a goal, but it looks a tough test and the Premiership should be the focus right now. Prediction: Ferencvaros 2 Rangers 1
- Scott Burns – The Hungarians have done really well in Europe. They are also hitting form domestically and Robbie Keane’s side are likely to have too much for Danny Rohl’s men. Prediction: Ferencvaros 3 Rangers 1
