Future Florida playcaller named Football Scoop OC of the Year

Florida’s expected future playcaller, Georgia Tech’s Buster Faulkner, was named the FootballScoop Offensive Coordinator of the Year on Monday.

“In 2025, no team did a better job of crafting an offensive identity out of its talent and getting the most out of said talent than the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets,” wrote Zach Barnett for the outlet. “…On the ground, the Yellow Jackets were confusing to prepare for and bruising to play against. Led by quarterback Haynes King, the Ramblin’ Wreck averaged an even 203 yards per game on 5.6 yards per carry, a number that ranked 11th nationally.”

Faulkner led a dynamic offense that saw multiple running backs and King, an option quarterback, thrive. That’s one of the main reasons Jon Sumrall sought him out as the future offensive coordinator of the Gators. If Florida can retain DJ Lagway and Jadan Baugh, the offense’s potential will be sky high.

It’s not just about running the ball, though. Faulkner has been instrumental in reinventing the Georgia Tech offensive scheme, which relied almost exclusively on the triple options for decades prior. King threw for nearly 2,700 yards and 12 touchdowns while throwing just five interceptions.

“As a team, Georgia Tech finished 12th nationally at 466.3 yards per game on 7.09 per play,” Barnett continued. “That figured tied for seventh nationally and, more importantly, represented a near yard-per-play improvement from 2024.”

Faulkner is also in the mix for the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant coach in college football. He’s made the 15-man semifinalist list, down from 63 nominees this year. For the first time in the award’s 30-year history, a fan vote is being considered. Gator Nation can support its future offensive coordinator using this link.
