Beau Greaves has better chance than anyone of emulating Queen of the Palace

FALLON SHERROCK made history for the tungsten sisterhood six years ago.

What the Queen of the Palace, 31, did in December 2019, beating two men at world level to smash down barriers, will go down in the history books — and earned her an MBE.

Since then, no woman has managed to emulate Sherrock’s magnificent achievements — FIVE have tried, but all have failed.

That has to change at some point and it could be this time round, given there are a record five female throwers in the draw of the 2025-26 World Darts Championship.

There’s Sherrock herself, Lisa Ashton, Gemma Hayter and Noa-Lynn van Leuven.

But the one flying the flag, the one with the best chance of victory, is Beau Greaves, the finest female darts thrower of her generation.

Weeks before she embarks on a two-year Tour Card — the chance to play the blokes every week — Doncaster’s finest will battle Northern Ireland World Cup winner Daryl Gurney in round one on December 19.

If she emulates or even does better than Sherrock, it would be a huge boost for women’s darts.

The 21-year-old Yorkshire lass has obliterated the field in the PDC Women’s Series, winning 86 consecutive games.

This year Beau ’n Arrow also pushed Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson close in TV tournaments — while also getting the better of Luke Littler in the world youth semi-finals.

Greaves said: “‘If I play well, I’ve got a chance of beating anybody.

“I enjoy it. And when I enjoy it, I play really well. I just try not to overthink it. If I get beat, I get beat. If I win, I win.

“It’s how I’ve been brought up and how I’ve played the game and been successful.

“I can be a little bit lazy at times. It’s something I need to work on and play more and push myself.

“I’m always trying to improve, always trying to get better. Always working hard, but not overthinking it.

“I’m 21. I love playing darts, but it’s not something that gets me down or annoys me that much.

“So I have a happy balance with it and I love coming away.

“Sometimes, I’m at home, I want to play, I want to push myself, I want to come through tight games. I miss the competitiveness when I’m not playing.

“I just think people should enjoy it more. Some people look miserable when they’re playing. I like to enjoy myself.”

Talented Greaves, a three-time women’s world champion, knows how lucky she is to be involved in this sport.

Not only is darts having its boom time, she can see the tough manual work her family is doing to pay the bills.

The two-time Women’s World Matchplay champ said: “I’ve seen my mum and sister work 12, 14-hour shifts. I’m grateful I don’t have to do that.

“I do think people make darts harder than it is. But it’s the life you choose.

“It’s what you put yourself into and how you’re going to work around that with your family.

“And I think people do complain a lot.

“People should feel lucky to have this life and the money that comes from it.

“I know I feel really lucky to be able to have freedom to play darts and to have that lifestyle.

“So I feel blessed in a way.”
