Christian McCaffrey Injury Update

McCaffrey has remained healthy throughout the entire 2025 season. He did not appear on the injury report Wednesday but was listed as limited on Thursday’s practice report. Whenever this happens, the fantasy platforms change McCaffrey’s status from healthy to questionable, which naturally sends alarm bells ringing in managers’ minds.

The issue is heightened when it comes to McCaffrey, given his injury history. The star running back missed 13 games in 2024 due to a calf injury to begin the year and a PCL sprain to end it.

Mid-week downgrades are typically very bad. However, in this case, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

McCaffrey is a little sick, that is all. The best running back in fantasy is dealing with an illness. He is at no risk of missing this week’s game.

McCaffrey ranks fifth in the entire NFL with 85 catches and also sits third with 237 carries through 13 games this season. He has compiled 1,655 yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns. With an illness now in tow, he may need to get back to full activity Friday in order to avoid a designation for Sunday’s contest against the Titans.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers are coming off their bye week feeling rested and recovered. McCaffrey said the best part of his bye was playing with his five-month-old daughter, but he also rested and recovered after 322 touches through 13 games.

McCaffrey’s Fantasy Outlook

It’s pretty hard to run for eight touchdowns in a season where you’re picking up just 3.6 yards per carry, but that’s where we are with McCaffrey.

He’s a special back that excels at making the most of the situation around him for fantasy purposes: this offensive line has given him no room to run, but it hasn’t stopped him from getting into the end zone lately (four rushing scores over his past three games).

Oh yea, and then there’s the fact that he has 4+ targets in every game this season and caught 29 of his 33 targets in November.

The knock on CMC coming into the season was his health risk. Well, he’s healthy and fresh off of a bye against one of the worst teams in the NFL: you’ve benefited all season for embracing the minor discount this summer and this is good a spot as you could ask for in the middle of December.
