Divorce are sharing a reworking of former single ‘Antarctica’, this time featuring the voice of Marcus Mumford. ‘Antarctica’ is the opening song on the band’s acclaimed debut album Drive to Goldenhammer – released earlier this year on Gravity / Capitol – and its release caps a year in which the band have toured internationally, made their first appearance at Glastonbury (during which they performed ‘Antarctica’ live on TV for the BBC), been nominated for awards, and currently find themselves landing on End of Year lists.

It was while Divorce were touring through the US with Mumford & Sons this summer that they struck up a friendship, and Marcus Mumford fell for the song. They would eventually get together to perform the song, a clip of which was later posted on the band’s socials. Sensing that they had something special together, they needed to get a version recorded a properly released.

Co-vocalist and guitarist Felix Mackenzie-Barrow had previously said the song was written “as a way to self-soothe and make sense of the loss I was feeling, and also recounts an event that Tiger and I experienced, encountering a newborn calf in the middle of the road on a late night drive.”

Co-vocalist and bassist Tiger Cohen-Towell says of the new single: “Meeting and playing shows with Mumford & Sons has been an immense privilege and a career highlight. They are the nicest guys. When we first asked Marcus to sing on Antarctica he seemed so genuinely excited; and what he ended up contributing to the song was so striking and tender that we needed to immortalise it to record.”

This stunning release captivates immediately. From the soothing vocal notes the emerge to the various harmonies that entwine and elevate the voyage, to the intricate guitar picks and crisp lyrics.
