Clemson linebacker Jamal Anderson enters the transfer portal

Clemson’s linebacker depth is taking another hit, as junior Jamal Anderson is preparing to look elsewhere when the transfer portal opens in early January. This year’s window is short — just Jan. 2 through Jan. 16 — but Anderson plans to be in it and no longer with the Tigers.

His season never fully got off the ground. Anderson played in the opening stretch of the year, appeared in four games, and made one start before shutting it down to keep his redshirt intact. During that brief run, he stacked up early production: three tackles with a stop for loss against LSU, three more versus Troy, another tackle for loss at Georgia Tech, and one tackle in the Syracuse matchup.

Before entering this fall, he had already logged snaps across two seasons, totaling 15 tackles, a sack, and a blocked punt in limited defensive action. His name carries weight well beyond college football — his father, Jamal Anderson, carved out a memorable NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons and earned first-team All-Pro honors after a legendary 1998 campaign.

Clemson originally brought Anderson in as one of its more notable additions in the 2023 signing class. ESPN rated the Mill Creek (Ga.) standout among the country’s top overall recruits and one of the better outside linebackers that cycle.

His decision means Clemson’s linebacker group has now seen multiple players opt to evaluate their futures, with Anderson joining Dee Crayton in choosing to explore the portal.
