ESPN moves quickly to replace prominent ‘SportsCenter’ host
Christine Williamson has been promoted to two prominent positions at ESPN, taking over as co-anchor of the 6 p.m. ET “SportsCenter” and becoming the network’s lead host for women’s college basketball coverage.
She will replace Elle Duncan, who is departing ESPN to join Netflix. Duncan’s last “SportsCenter” appearance will be Dec. 16, the network announced.
The moves position Williamson as a leading voice in both ESPN’s news programming and live sports coverage. She will begin hosting pregame and halftime coverage for Sunday’s Penn State at No. 3 South Carolina game at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
In January, she will start co-anchoring the 6 p.m. “SportsCenter” with Kevin Negandhi and take on hosting duties for Women’s College GameDay Covered by State Farm. Her women’s basketball responsibilities will extend through the 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four in Phoenix, Arizona.
“Christine has earned these high-profile roles on two of our most important content areas – ‘SportsCenter’ and women’s college basketball,” said Burke Magnus, ESPN’s president of content. “Christine connects with fans through her energy, personality and knowledge of sports, and she’s proven throughout her ESPN career that she can anchor coverage at the highest level — both on SportsCenter and on the road with GameDay.”
Williamson joined ESPN in 2019 as a digital host and has worked across multiple platforms during her six years at the network. She currently co-anchors the 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. editions of SportsCenter with Matt Barrie and co-hosts Countdown to College GameDay on Saturday mornings during college football season. She served as a reporter for GameDay during the 2024 college basketball season, traveling weekly to campus sites.
Her career at ESPN began in the network’s digital division, where she hosted SC on Snap and contributed to programming covering college basketball, college football and the Heisman Trophy before transitioning to television.
