Olivia Munn and John Mulaney have revealed they have a young Ghostbusters fan in the household, as earlier this week, Munn shared on social media photos and stories from their son Malcolm’s fourth birthday celebration.
Munn noted that the theme was not chosen by her, writing, “We had the best time celebrating my little boy’s 4th birthday. He’s been asking for it to be a Ghostbusters theme ever since John showed him the movie and cartoons this past summer.” As seen in her photos, the celebration included a Ghostbusters-themed birthday cake alongside large inflatables of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and the Ecto-1.
What Munn did not expect was that both inflatables would make the trip back home. “After a long negotiation (which I lost) they came back home with us and are now fully inflated in our living room,” she said.
Her update quickly spread across social media, catching the attention of the official Ghost Corps Instagram page, which replied, “Happy birthday, Malcolm! From Ghostbusters.”

This continues the trend of celebrity child parties, which includes Kim Kardashian setting a high bar for Ghostbusters-themed birthday celebrations when she threw an elaborate party for her son Psalm’s fifth birthday. The event featured a brick façade lined with Proton Packs for every guest, a slime-making station, and an array of themed sweets, even catching the attention of Ghostbusters filmmaker Jason Reitman, who praised the party and joked that it was “better than my 5th birthday,” with photos and further details available here. More recently, HGTV star Jonathan Scott embraced the trend with a similarly themed birthday party for his stepson, featuring a surprise appearance by an Ecto-1.
