Control Resonant has “a new threat” beyond the Hiss

“There is a new antagonist here.”

Control Resonant was today detailed by Remedy, a sequel to Control and the latest in the Remedy Connected Universe. And, while the Hiss — the antagonist of both Control and FBC Firebreak — appear in Resonant‘s reveal trailer, Remedy is being ultra careful to point out they’re not the big bad of the sequel.

Mikael Kasurinen, the creative director of Control Resonant and the co-creative director of Remedy, was incredibly careful to detail the main antagonist of Resonant as “a new threat” in a hands-off preview of the sequel ahead of today’s reveal at The Game Awards. I pressed both him and Thomas Puha, Remedy’s director of communications, on that point.

“It is a new threat,” Kasurinen reiterated with Stevivor. “I want to be clear on that. There is a new antagonist here.”

“Yeah, I think [in] the original game — I’m not saying we failed, but establishing the threat, properly, was definitely the thing we wanted to tackle here,” added Puha.

It seems the Hiss were only the beginning…

“The Hiss ended up — maybe felt almost — like you were fighting a disease,” Kasurinen concluded. “So, we want to add more elements of personality this time around.

“More will be revealed,” said Kasurinen.

Rest assured, we’re as invested in Remedy’s universe as you all, so we’ll keep pressing them and will have more information as it becomes available. Until then, what do you make of Resonant’s reveal announcement?

Control Resonant is planned for a 2026 release on Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Mac via Steam and the Apple App Store, and consoles including Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5.

Stevivor attended a remote, hands-off preview of Control Resonant over Discord, as invited by the publisher.
