Skyrim fans think Bethesda just teased the release date for Elder Scrolls 6Over seven years on from its official announcement, we’re still no closer to knowing anything about anticipated Elder Scrolls 6. While fans have their theories, Bethesda is keeping schtum about its potential setting as well as any sort of release window.

However, gamers think that an announcement trailer for Skyrim coming to Nintendo Switch 2 – yes, it’s getting another re-release – contains a hidden message that could point to a release date for the next Elder Scrolls.

During the trailer, an elf can be seen convincing Santa to give everyone Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch 2. This passes as a Speech levelling check with the skill increasing to 27 – this is where the fan theory gets a bit abstract.

Below the Speech level increase, the overall character level can be seen as level 20. Some eager Elder Scrolls fans have taken this to be a hidden message with Bethesda potentially suggesting that 2027 could be a big date for Elder Scrolls news.

The idea was suggested on Reddit with a user post reading: “TES6 IN 2027?”. Another comment buys into the idea, saying: “Honestly, this is actually plausible.”

One more commenter adds fuel to the fire, writing: “I’m not usually one to believe the theories, but this one feels right and might mean they are going to show something at TGA, as I don’t think they’d be dropping clues if there wasn’t an announcement.”

2027 will mark nine years since Bethesda (perhaps prematurely) announced that a new Elder Scrolls is in the works. Since its 2018 teaser, Bethesda has launched Fallout 76 and Starfield, with the next Tamriel adventure only going into full production around 2023.

As for how credible this theory is, director and executive producer at Bethesda Softworks Todd Howards recently put expectations in check for when to expect new Elder Scrolls news. Speaking to GQ, Howard said its next game is “still a long way off”.

However, he later alluded that the shadow-drop of the Oblivion Remaster earlier in 2025 might have been a ‘test run’ for what’s to come, saying it “worked out well”.

“My perfect version – and I’m not saying this is going to happen – is that it’s going to be a while and then, one day, the game will just appear,” Howard concludes.

With The Game Awards 2025 right around the corner, Bethesda fans will no doubt have their eyes and ears peeled for anything related to the beloved fantasy series. However, it’s much more likely that we’ll be waiting a while yet for more Elder Scrolls 6 news – maybe even until 2027 if Reddit’s theories are to be believed.
