Keegan Murray has slowed down since aggressive start to season

The 2025-26 Sacramento Kings roster lacks youth with what’s projected to be true elite upside, but Keegan Murray easily has the highest.
Since being fourth overall in the 2022 NBA Draft, he’s played a wide variety of roles. This season marks the first time the organization has referred to him as its top option. Making his season debut in game 16 of the season, his aggression was clearly on another level.
Matt George, host of the Locked On Kings podcast, shared what he’s seen from Murray when joining The Allen Stiles Show on Tuesday.
“As soon as he touches the ball, he’s looking at the rim,” George said. In his first five games, the forward averaged 19.6 points on 16 shot attempts per game.
But that has dipped to 10.3 points on 11.3 field-goal attempts in the last four games. Of course, it’s a small sample size, but Murray maintaining his increased aggression will be crucial to his long-term development.
“He needs to be putting the ball in the basket,” George said. “He needs to start knocking down shots more consistently than he is.” Shooting 43 percent from the field and 26.4 percent from three isn’t ideal, but it will surely increase from there. The question is to what extent.

The two biggest names being monitored at the upcoming NBA trade deadline are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Davis. While those aren’t expected to be realistic targets for the Sacramento Kings, they’re not the only options as Jonathan Kuminga continues to spend time on Golden State’s bench.
“[Kuminga’s] certainly on the trade block,” NBA Insider Brett Siegel told Allen Stiles. “They’re not just gonna trade him to trade him, but at this point, with how everything’s looking, it’s very clear that he does not want to be there anymore and Steve Kerr doesn’t want to play him anymore.”
For Sacramento, which lacks young talent with promising upside, Kuminga’s skill set, size, and athleticism make it easy to see why they could be interested. Add on their previously reported interest from last offseason, where Malik Monk was part of the deal.
