Leavenworth and nearby areas in the dark as crews work to restore power

Thousands of residents in Chelan County, including the city of Leavenworth, are grappling with power outages as crews work to restore electricity following severe weather conditions, city officials said Thursday.

Approximately 5,701 people remain without power in the Leavenworth area, after the outage was first reported on Thursday, following the area being hit with rain and wind, according to Chelan PUD.

Due to the significant and ongoing impact of recent weather events the Village of Lights display in Front Street Park for the Christmastown festival will not be illuminated this weekend, city officials said.

Local agencies, Chelan County Emergency Management, and Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, along with Chelan County Public Works, are collaborating to clear fallen trees, secure power lines, and bring back electricity to affected areas.

Efforts are underway to locate a suitable drop-off site for the large amount of brush and debris resulting from the fallen trees, according to city officials.

However, the task is proving difficult due to the widespread road closures in all directions.

The situation has been compounded by multiple road closures and flooding, particularly in the Leavenworth and Peshastin areas, where downed power lines and trees have been reported, city officials said.

Crews from various agencies are on the ground, actively addressing these challenges to ensure public safety and restore normalcy.

Residents are advised to contact Chelan County PUD for updates on the power outage and to report any downed lines.

Attractions like Leavenworth Adventure Park have temporarily closed.

The Welcome Center & Chirstmastown in the Festhalle events are closed on Thursday due to the outage, according to Visit Leavenworth.

Leavenworth city officials are urging residents to remain patient as crews continue their work to resolve the issues as swiftly as possible.
