Johnny Manziel Drops 2-Word Reaction to Former Teammate Mike Evans’ Stunning Catch in Buccaneers-Falcons

Tonight’s Thursday Night Football game on Amazon Prime Video between the Atlanta Falcons and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers marks only the fifth game that future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans has appeared in this season. The 32-year-old has had an injury-plagued season, but the team has managed to maintain its success, currently holding a 7-6 record at the top of the NFC South.

In his first game back since October 20, Evans has been quite explosive, making several big plays. One play specifically caught the eye of former teammate Johnny Manziel.

Manziel and Evans both know each other from their time with the Aggies, forming one of the best quarterback-wide receiver duos in college football. They played together in 2012 and 2013, before both players were selected in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

In 2012, Manziel appeared in 13 games for the Aggies. He threw for 3,706 yards, 26 touchdowns, and nine interceptions on a completion rate of 68.0%. He was arguably better as a rusher, considering he rushed the ball 201 times for 1,410 yards and 21 touchdowns. That year, he won the Heisman Trophy and was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year.

Evans also played in 13 games for the Aggies in 2012. Across 13 games, Evans was the favorite target of Manziel, recording 82 receptions for 1,105 yards and five touchdowns.

In 2013, Manziel was better in the passing game than in the running game. He completed 69.9% of passes for 4,114 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions (all of which led college football). As a runner, he rushed 144 times for 759 yards and nine touchdowns.

Evans took a step forward in 2013. That year, he caught 69 passes for 1,394 yards and 12 touchdowns. This stat line earned him All-American honors.

Evans would go on to be picked by the Buccaneers, where he’s been one of the most consistent wide receivers in the league, despite his age. Manziel, on the other hand, was selected by the Cleveland Browns and only played in 14 games.
