Schola Cantorum will present their annual Christmas Concert Dec. 13-14

Schola Cantorum of Waynesboro will present their annual Christmas Concert in both Staunton and Waynesboro this year. The concert, entitled What Sweeter Music, will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 13. at Central Methodist Church at 14 N. Lewis St. in Staunton and at 5 p.m. Dec. 14 at First Baptist Church at 301 S. Wayne Ave. in Waynesboro.
Directed by Adam Phillips, the 65-voice chorus will sing familiar Christmas carols, two settings of “Ave Maria,” “O Magnum Mysterium” and “Hodie Christus Natus Est” by Francis Poulenc, “What Sweeter Music” by John Rutter and more. The concert will end with a congregational sing of the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.”
Admission is free with a free-will offering collected at intermission. A reception will follow the concerts. Both churches are handicapped-accessible.
Schola Cantorum is a volunteer group of both professional musicians and life-long singers. They meet every Tuesday from September through May and perform twice a year. Auditions are held in August and September.
