Conor McGregor finally marries long-time partner Dee Devlin on Friday following a delay in pinning down a location. The MMA star got engaged to his partner in 2020.

Initially, McGregor claimed that he needed time to “chill” after getting his son christened in 2017, citing his age as a factor for the delay. Speaking to RTE, the Irishman said: “We just dropped a bloody bomb on a christening for the young boy. Let me chill for a minute, give me time. I’m still only 29.”

Once the engagement was confirmed, a decision was to be made on where the pair would walk down the aisle. McGregor told the Irish Mirror that he’d prefer to get married in Dublin, but both would have to agree.

He said: “My lady is my long-time lady. We are set to get married soon, we are just trying to find a location. I am ready to go; we are just trying to get a location. Is it at home? I’d like for it to be at home. We are deciding on a location. Hopefully, we get the marriage done, and that is what I’m looking forward to. These are the decisions we have.

“I go between do we want an extreme and extravagant. It will be extravagant and I will spare no cost for sure for my lady and my family but is it invite everyone or is it private, these are the things we are trying to figure out.

“We are private people but we wouldn’t like to do it and think we should have done it a bit bigger. So we are in decision mode at moment, but let’s see, things are good. But that’s my lady all the way, the highs or lows before all of this.”

Dee reportedly dreamed of getting married in the iconic Sistine Chapel, but the Vatican prohibits wedding ceremonies from taking place there. A close source said: “Conor and Dee want to get married before Christmas and are planning a wedding at the Vatican in Rome. They are both staunch Catholics and it is their dream to wed there.

“They ideally would like to marry in the Sistine Chapel but it is not allowed, so they may have to settle for the Cappella del Caro which can accommodate 100 people beside St Peter’s Basilica. It is all hush hush at the moment, but December 12 is the date mentioned, so we will have to wait and see.”

Now, the 37-year-old has finally tied the knot with Dee, with the intimate ceremony taking place in the Chiesa di Santo Stefano Degli Abissini, just behind the Basilica of St Peter.

Vatican sources told the Irish Independent that the Church of St Stephen of the Abyssinians was the official venue for the rare occasion. Weddings in the Vatican are unusual and are reserved for very specific reasons, requiring special accommodations with authorities.

However, concern was expressed over the wedding due to McGregor’s various scandals. In 2024, a jury in a civil trial in Dublin’s High Court found he had sexually assaulted a woman at a hotel in the city in 2018.

The MMA star denied the claim, insisting he had consensual sex with Nikita Hand. Ms Hand was awarded £214,994 in damages and McGregor was also ordered to pay about £1.1million in legal costs.

Earlier this month, the Supreme Court rejected the Irishman’s appeal against the civil ruling, finding that he had a fair hearing and confirming that he wouldn’t be able to appeal further.

Dee stood by McGregor throughout the trial and posted on social media to share her faith in her now-husband. She wrote: “My man and I have created a beautiful life together. I love him I trust him and I BELIEVE HIM!

“Our four beautiful children whose smiling faces and happy hearts are testimony to the man he is and who we are! No one is entitled to comment on our relationship- we trust one another and love one another. Nothing or nobody will change that. Our family stands strong!”

The pair first met in 2008 at a nightclub, where Dee worked at the time, and share four children – sons Conor Jack McGregor Jr, Rian, and Mack, and daughter Croia.
