Payment dates will change for some benefit claimants during December.

It’s important households know when their money is arriving so they can budget over the busy Christmas period.

The DWP doesn’t process payments on bank holidays so money is usually paid out earlier instead.

It all depends when usual payment dates fall during the week.

Anyone due to get their regular payment on Christmas Day (Thursday, December 25) should get it 24 hours earlier on Christmas Eve.

Those whose payment date falls on Boxing Day (Friday, December 26) should also receive it on Christmas Eve.

There’s then another bank holiday a few days later on New Year’s Day (Thursday, January 1).

Money should be paid to these households on Wednesday, December 31 (New Year’s Eve).

With Christmas Day and New Year’s Day both falling on Thursdays, it could mean two payments being affected for some people.

Claimants with payments dates outside of these bank holidays will not be affected and will get their money as usual.

It’s important low-income households are aware of when their payments will arrive over the busy and expensive festive period so they can plan accordingly.
