The 25-year-old Garcia will enter his fifth MLB season in 2026, all with the Royals. Last season, he slashed .286/.351/.449 with 16 home runs, 74 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 160 games as Kansas City finished third in the AL Central and missed the postseason for the ninth time in 10 seasons.

Garcia, who has played in the outfield and at shortstop but is mainly a third baseman, earned his first All-Star appearance last season and was a Gold Glove Award winner.

The Venezuela-born Garcia signed with the Royals as a 16-year-old in 2016 as an international free agent. He made his MLB debut in July 2022, but did not become a regular in the Kansas City lineup until the following season.

Garcia’s extension means the Royals have locked up the left side of their infield long-term with shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and Garcia the only players under contract beyond the 2028 season.
