8 Pitt undergraduates earned Gilman Scholarships

Eight University of Pittsburgh undergraduates have been awarded Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships for the October 2025 application cycle.

The competitive, merit-based U.S. Department of State program supports students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to national security and economic prosperity. The department awards nearly 3,000 students with up to $5,000 in funding each year.

Here are Pitt’s winners and destinations:

  • Adora Abdul, a first-year in the Swanson School of Engineering and the David C. Frederick Honors College (Spain)
  • Leo Dean, a junior in the School of Business majoring in supply chain management (Australia)
  • Khady Fall, a junior in the School of Nursing’s BSN program (Senegal)
  • Rachel Kam, a junior in the School of Nursing’s BSN program with a minor in Korean (Switzerland)
  • Ariana Kamugisha, a sophomore in the School of Public Health’s BSPH program with a minor in Swahili and a certificate in African studies (Kenya)
  • Sophia Marzka, a sophomore in the School of Business and the Frederick Honors College majoring in marketing with a certificate in innovation and entrepreneurship (South Korea)
  • Riley Moss, a first-year in the School of Nursing’s BSN program and the Frederick Honors College (Argentina)
  • Emily Truitt, a sophomore in the School of Public Health’s BSPH program and the Frederick Honors College (India)
