A television presenter has revealed how Gardeners’ World favourite Adam Frost demonstrated his genuine character behind the scenes whilst they collaborated on the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Nicki Chapman is a broadcaster who gained recognition as a panellist on Popstars and Pop Idol. Her broadcasting portfolio also features programmes such as Escape to the Country and Wanted Down Under.

The 58 year old began presenting the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show back in 2006, but lacking formal horticultural training, she explained how her BBC co-presenter Adam consistently ensures she’s fully informed through a thoughtful act of kindness.

During an appearance on the Gardeners’ World podcast, she explained: “I’ve been doing Chelsea for a long time and you probably guessed by now I am not a trained horticulturist. I am a happy gardener and I know what I like and I know what I don’t like.

“And Adam takes me around all the gardens and he explains to me the whole theory behind it, off camera, no one knows. He explains every garden and the ethos behind it and why the gardener did that, you know, and the planting,” reports the Express.

“So that when I come to do my shows on the Monday, I have a little bit of knowledge. He is so generous, but Adam is like that with everybody.”

This year marked Adam’s debut as lead presenter of the Chelsea Flower Show. He confessed to feeling “privileged” to be part of the programme, with Nicki suggesting those who guided him would be immensely proud of his achievements.

She said: “They’d be so proud of you, because here we are sitting on the stage of Gardeners’ World Live, we’ve finished an amazing stint at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

“And I think actually this is where we should give you a round of applause because this is the first year that Adam has anchored the show. We’ve seen him star in it for many years but to be one of the main anchor presenters.

“We do a lot of programmes off Chelsea and it’s wonderful, it’s an amazing week. Adam opened on the Sunday night which is wonderful, did you feel good?”

Nicki had fronted the RHS Chelsea Flower Show annually between 2006 and 2018, before taking a step back the subsequent year after medical professionals discovered a brain tumour “the size of a golf ball”.

At the time, she expressed how she was “devastated” about missing that year’s Chelsea Flower Show, but acknowledged she was heeding medical advice.

“You have to give yourself the best possible chance to heal,” she said. “You don’t get a second chance to recover.”

Adam initially joined Gardeners’ World as a presenter in 2016. You can watch him in the latest Gardeners’ World Winter Specials this evening (Friday, 12 December) between 8pm and 9pm on BBC Two.
