West Brom fans had to stay patient with Aune Heggebo, but despite their team’s current woes, the Norwegian striker is finally starting to adapt to the Championship.
Despite a blank in West Brom‘s 3-2 defeat to Southampton on Tuesday, Heggebo has scored six times in his last six appearances, bringing his season tally of goals up to eight in 21 matches across all competitions.
The Norway international is now joint-ninth in the race for the Championship golden boot, level with the likes of Hull City’s Oli McBurnie, Middlesbrough’s Morgan Whittaker and Coventry’s Ellis Simms.
Considering West Brom’s attacking play has been so dreadful under Ryan Mason, Heggebo’s goalscoring record can now actually be seen as quite a good achievement, with him matching attackers at high-flying clubs in the second tier.

Aune Heggebo pipped to Championship Player of the Month
Heggebo‘s form in November saw him nominated for the Championship Player of the Month award.
Although he struggled in the draw with Sheffield Wednesday at The Hawthorns and the 1-0 defeat away at Charlton at the start of the month, Heggebo found his stride before and after the international break.
The former Brann striker netted against Oxford United, before a brace against Coventry City unfortunately went to waste as Albion squandered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2.
Heggebo failed to score in a third consecutive game against Birmingham but went on to score twice in West Brom’s comeback win over Swansea at The Hawthorns on 29 November.

Unfortunately, the EFL deemed someone else to be more deserving of the monthly prize than him, despite his incredible form in front of goal for a team that’s doing so badly.
Ellis Simms wins the award
He’s been mentioned already, but the EFL announced on Friday that Coventry striker Simms had won the Championship Player of the Month award for November.
Coventry boss Frank Lampard also won the manager’s award.
Like Heggebo, Simms also scored five goals in November, but he did so in fewer appearances.

One of Simms’ five goals came in the Sky Blues’ 3-2 win over Albion on 22 November and to be fair to him, he probably does deserve to take the award for the month.
As for Heggebo, it’s great that he was nominated and it’s even better to see him finally starting to look like the goalscorer West Brom fans thought they were getting in the summer when he joined from Brann.
