Timothée Chalamet Declares Marty Supreme His Best Performance Yet: “This Is Top-Level Sh*t”

Timothée Chalamet boasts that his role in Marty Supreme is the “best performance” of his career. Chalamet has starred in several movies over the years, including Call Me by Your Name, Lady Bird, Little Women, Dune, Wonka ,and A Complete Unknown.
He’s been nominated for two Oscars, five Golden Globe,s and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards, with his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown earning him a SAG Award.
Now Chalamet is in a new movie, Marty Supreme, which is garnering awards show buzz once again. During an interview with Margaret Gardiner, he claimed that his portrayal of Marty Mauser in this film is his “best performance” yet.
“This is some top-level s***,” the actor boasted, before adding that he’s spent the past seven to eight years delivering “really committed, top-of-the-line performances.”
Chalamet believes it’s important not to shy away from making bold claims like that because, in his own words, he’s bringing a level of “discipline” and “work ethic” that nobody, not even himself, should take for granted.
According to Gardiner, George Clooney recently called Chalamet a “great actor.” The Marty Supreme star reacted to the praise by joking that he “needed a little more confidence.”
“This is probably my best performance, and it’s been like seven, eight years that I feel like I’ve been handing in really, really committed, top-of-the-line performances. And it’s important to say out loud because the discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things, I don’t want people to take for granted. I don’t want to take for granted. This is really some top-level s***.”
In the comments section of the YouTube video, which has since been taken down, some commenters complained that Chalamet acted in an arrogant manner in the interview with all the self-praise.
Others came to the actor’s defense by noting that Chalamet was purposefully channeling Marty Mauser from Marty Supreme, which Gardiner seemed to confirm in a reply when she said, “I did feel like I was talking to Marty.“
Chalamet’s comments come almost a year after he took the stage at the SAG Awards to accept Best Actor, where he admitted he was in the pursuit of greatness and is inspired by the likes of Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis.
Marty Supreme doesn’t come out until December 25, but it already had its premiere at the New York Film Festival back in October. So far, reviews for Marty Supreme are stellar, with critics calling it an exhilarating, bold, and emotional flick. Marty Supreme currently holds a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The story is loosely inspired by the life of Marty Reisman, a table tennis player who won multiple world championships. Chalamet’s co-stars include Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Shark Tank‘s Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, and Sandra Bernhard. Uncut Gems‘ Josh Safdie directed the film and co-wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein.
Marty Supreme has already received multiple award nominations, including at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, and American Film Institute Awards.
Chalamet himself has been nominated for Best Actor at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globes, New York Film Critics Online, Seattle Film Critics Society, St. Louis Film Critics Association, and Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association. With Academy Award nominations set for January, and the ceremony airing in March 2026, Chalamet could win his first Oscar.
