Report: Blue Jays lock up RHP Rogers on three-year deal

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers to a three-year deal worth $37 million, according to multiple reports.

The contract comes with a fourth-year vesting option, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Rogers, 34, split last season between the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets, and finished the campaign with a 1.98 earned-run average over a MLB-leading 81 appearances. He tallied 48 strikeouts over 77.1 innings pitched.

Rogers’ most notable trait is his signature submarine delivery that delivers at an arm angle with his hand almost in line with his knee.

His fastball is delivered at an average velocity of just over 83 miles per hour, but he mixes in a sinker and slider combination that consistently keeps hitters off balance and led to a hard-hit rate of just 33.1 per cent, per StatCast – in the top 95 percentile of pitchers across baseball a year ago.

Over his seven-year career, Rogers has an ERA of 2.76 with 306 strikeouts in 424.0 innings.

More to come.
