Ireland is on course for many family Christmas dinner gatherings to be ruined as flu surges leaving people feeling seriously unwell in bed or needing hospital care.
The country is braced for one of its worst flu seasons and it may not peak until Christmas or the early New Year, as the Dáil heard warnings yesterday that more than three-quarters of people in hospital with the virus at the moment had not been vaccinated.
