Met Éireann issues Status Orange and Yellow warnings as rainy weekend ahead

Counties Cork and Kerry will be under the Orange warning from 3am until 6pm on Sunday, with the highest levels of rainfall expected in Kerry and west Cork.

Significant flooding, hazardous travelling conditions and poor visibility are expected for the duration of the Orange warning.

A Status Yellow rain warning will come into place for 10 counties today

Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Donegal and all five counties in Connacht will be under the warning from 6pm on Saturday evening until midnight on Monday.

A separate Status Yellow rain warning for counties Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford will begin at midnight on Sunday and end at 3am on Monday morning.

There will be spells of heavy rain in the affected counties with increased flood risk due to high river levels and saturated ground.

Impacts during the warnings will include river and surface flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.

Ahead of the warnings, today will start off dry with some hazy sunshine. Cloud will then build up in the west with rain spreading to all areas by the afternoon, then turning heavier in the west as the warnings come into place.

Highest daytime temperatures will be between 7 and 11C.

Tonight will be wet and blustery with widespread rain turning heavy at times. It will be a mild night with lows of 10 to 12C.

There are no signs of improvement for tomorrow, which is set to be another wet and windy day across the country. Rain will again turn heavy at times, particularly in the west and south.

Rain will begin to clear on Sunday night, bringing a period of clear spells and isolated showers in the west, with lows of 4 to 7C.

Drier days are on the horizon for the early part of next week. Both Monday and Tuesday will be dry and bright with spells of sunshine and showers.

However, further spells of rain will arrive from Wednesday onwards, with current indications from Met Éireann showing unsettled weather is likely to continue on Thursday and for the rest of next week.
