Proud Family Week as Nurse Kate Cribbin Graduates as Sister Eve continues her training as a Doctor

It is a massive week at Tallaght University Hospital as they proudly celebrate the graduation of 64 newly-qualified general staff nurses, each of whom completed a four-year degree programme delivered jointly between Trinity College Dublin and TUH.

Among those advancing their healthcare careers are two sisters, who have rained under the same roof to achieve their goals and commit themselves to working as the backbone of our healthcare system. Of the Kildare sisters, one is finishing her nursing degree as the other progresses through her medical training as a doctor.

Kate Cribbin will officially receive her hospital badge and certificate to practice nursing during a special ceremony on Thursday, 11 of December. Kate recently helped her sister Eve settle into the hospital as she began her on-site training as a junior doctor and medical intern.

The Cribbin family are extremely proud, and it was a family member who inspired these careers. Kate’s path into nursing began at just 16, when she spent caring for her grandfather, who lived with Alzheimer’s disease.

Her determination to pursuit nursing was galvanised by this experience. She said that looking after her loved one sparked her passion to work in healthcare and support families going through challenging moments.

Kate’s sister Eve found her path to a career in healthcare during her Transition Year in school. She did a placement at TUH and wanted to take her career to that fast-moving clinical environment, returning years later in a full circle moment as a medical intern.

Eve’s decision to pursue medicine was sparked during her Transition Year, when she undertook a placement at TUH. The exposure to patient care, teamwork, and the hospital’s fast-moving clinical environment left a lasting impression and set her on course to return years later as a medical intern.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony where Kate will be among a cohort of new nurses, TUH Director of Nursing Áine Lynch commended their dedication: “It is wonderful to stand alongside our new nursing graduates who have worked extremely hard to reach this moment. This is an important and proud milestone, not just for the graduates themselves but for their families and the colleagues who supported them along the way. I am especially delighted that 87% of our new graduates will begin their professional careers here at TUH. Their commitment to our hospital and our patients is deeply valued.”
