Charlotte Church has shared her reasons behind wearing revealing tops that show off her cleavage in a recent candid interview. The 39-year-old singer and Celebrity Traitors star opened up about some of her personal habits during her latest appearance on the Walking The Dog podcast with host Emily Dean.
As the pair took a walk together, Emily commented that Charlotte smelt “lovely”. The musician was surprised by the compliment as she replied: “Do I? That’s surprising. I never smell nice.” She went on to reveal that she has completely stopped using deodorant, saying: “I don’t wear any deodorant or anything, so I generally stink. I don’t shave anymore. I don’t shave anything.”
Charlotte also admitted that she stopped shaving “probably about 18 months ago” and gradually gave up deodorant as well, citing concerns about exposing her body to chemicals as a major factor in her decision.

She added: “I’m just not sure about sticking all of this chemically stuff in these pores, cos your skin is so…you know, it’s the largest organ in the body. Everything we put on our skin goes into our bloodstream.”
The former classic singer also opened up about why she frequently shows off her cleavage. “I’ve got my boobs out for the majority of the time,” she said, describing them as a kind of social filter – or, as her husband jokenly calls it, a “Titmus Test”.
Charlotte elaborated: “It really separates out the pervs immediately…but it also separates out those who are maybe deeply conservative or deeply religious.” She describes the experience as freeing, adding: “It’s so liberating…I feel much sexier.”
The star has been in the public eye since she was 11, rising to fame with her televised performance of Pie Jesu. Her early years were defined by remarkable success, the Mirror reports.
Charlotte has sold millions of records, toured around the world and was praised for having the voice of an angel. Yet, behind the scenes, she was supporting her mother Maria through long-term mental health challenges, including bipolar disorder, anxiety, self-harm and alcohol misuse.
As she matured, Charlotte transitioned from classical music to pop, eventually branching out to television and later activism.
Her rocky relationship with rugby star Gavin Henson attracted media attention throughout the 2000s. Although the couple become engaged, they ultimately parted ways, acknowledging that their lifestyles had grown too different to maintain their relationship.

Initially Charlotte said she felt “overjoyed” when Gavin proposed, but both ultimately “had a change of heart”. During their time together the former couple had two children, a daughter Ruby, and their son Dexter.
The former couple are still on good terms, and have continued to co-parent their now-teenage children since their spilt. Charlotte went on to marry musician Jonathan Powell in 2017, welcoming a third child, Frida, in 2020.
In recent years, she has withdrawn from the spotlight to focus on more spiritual pursuits, which mainly includes running her Welsh wellness retreat, The Dreaming.
The retreat provides nature-based experiences, sound healing sessions and even a five-day Witch retreat. While the business has faced financial hurdles, Charlotte says this work resonates more deeply with her values than her pop career ever did and gives her a strong sense of purpose.
