Darts pensioner Paul Lim the oldest slinger in town as he hunts win at 71

The Singapore hero is back at the Alexandra Palace and Record Sport tells you everything you need to know about the old boy

Darting icon Paul Lim returns to the Ally Pally stage at the ripe-old age of 71 for his Saturday clash with Jeffrey de Graaf.

The Singapore slinger first made an appearance at the Paddy Power World Championship almost three decades ago and has been a revelation in recent times.

Lim has continued to battle against younger guns back in his homeland and has earned his way back onto the big stage following a series of consistent showings on the PDC Asian Tour

Astoundingly, the prize-winning pensioner has been giving kids more lessons during 2025 by recording two victories on that circuit during this season.

Lim has been known to fans in Europe for almost five decades having made his World Championship debut in 1982 alongside the likes of Eric Bristow and winner Jocky Wilson.

He has also played in numerous World Cups at the latter stages of his endless career and makes a return to the Ally Pally due to his standing on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

Of course, Lim is not going to find it easy this evening as he goes in against the Swede who caused a seismic shock 12 months ago.

De Graaf was written off as having no chance against Scotland’s Gary Anderson, but stunned the two-time World Champion to progress.

Anderson was struggling with a shoulder issue, but it did not detract from the performance of the outsider as he shocked the Ally Pally crowd.

The 3,500 who pack the London venue for the first time of the evening session will all mainly be cheering for Lim and Record Sport tells you everything you need to know about the oldest slinger in town.

  • Paul Lim will become the oldest player to compete at the World Darts Championship this year, as he makes his Alexandra Palace return at the age of 71.
  • The Singapore Slinger made his PDC World Championship debut in 1996/97, in just the fourth staging of the event.
  • Lim’s last victory on the Alexandra Palace stage came against Luke Humphries in the 2021/22 event.
  • Having famously landed a nine-darter at the BDO World Championship in 1990, Lim missed double 12 for a nine-darter at the PDC World Championship against Gary Anderson in the 2017/18 edition.
  • Lim will make his 28th World Championship appearance this year and that’s a record only bettered by Raymond van Barneveld, Steve Beaton and Phil Taylor.
