The Robert Morris men’s basketball team, coming off a last-second defeat at the hands of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Toledo.

The Mid-American Conference foe enters Saturday’s game at the UPMC Events Center with a 5-4 overall record. Sonny Wilson and Leroy Blyden Jr. lead the Rockets with a combined scoring average of 30.3 points per game.

The Colonials, 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League, are undefeated at home this season and looking for more home cooking after dropping their last game in Milwaukee to the Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers, 74-72.

Robert Morris jumped out early in the game and rode the coattails of DeSean Goode, who had a game-high 26 points and added eight rebounds. The Colonials went on a 13-0 run late in the first half, which ultimately led to an RMU 41-34 halftime lead.

Robert Morris extended the lead to 12 points early in the second half, but Milwaukee later went on a 15-3 run that tied the game at 54-54. The Panthers continued to find their game and eventually took a seven-point lead, but Robert Morris battled back on scoring from Goode and Ta’Zir Smith, who had 12 points.

The game saw seven ties and three lead changes, and it took a last second tip-in by Milwaukee’s Seth Hubbard to win the game for the Panthers.

Albert Vargas scored nine points for RMU and Ryan Prather added eight, with Josh Hill coming down with 10 rebounds.

The Colonials have boasted a balanced attack this season, with three players averaging in double figures – Goode (13.1), Nikolaos Chitikoudis (12.0) and Prather (11.9) – and one right behind in Hill (9.7).

Colonials to host California (PA) Saturday

The Robert Morris women’s basketball team will play a home game against California (PA) at 4 p.m. Saturday at the UPMC Events Center.

The game against the Division II Vulcans will follow the men’s game against Toledo beginning at 1 p.m.

California, from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, is 4-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference and is led by Alicia Young and Kennedy Bankett, both averaging 12 points per game.

The Colonials, 6-2 overall and 1-0 in Horizon League play, return home after defeating the Northern Kentucky Norse, 60-58, over the weekend.

The game, played at the Truist Center in Highland Heights, Ky., was a back-and-forth affair that saw RMU shooting 50 percent from the floor during the first quarter. The Colonials were led by Myriam Traore, who connected on 3 of 6 shots from 3-point range on the way to a career-high 17 points.

Robert Morris led 30-21 at halftime before Northern Kentucky went on a 19-7 run that eventually put the Norse up by three points. But the Colonials answered with a 10-0 run of their own to regain the lead.

Aislin Malcolm scored 10 of her 13 points in the fourth quarter to keep the Colonials in front, but it wasn’t until RMU made a defensive stop with two seconds remaining that they secured the win.

Bailey Kuhns added 11 points for the Colonials and Eva Livingston had nine rebounds.
