Hear what Florida coach Todd Golden said after UF’s loss to UConn
Florida basketball coach Todd Golden speaks in a postgame press conference following the Gators’ loss to UConn in Madison Square Garden.
Florida basketball will look to bounce back against George Washington in Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise, Fla on Saturday, Dec. 13.
The No. 18 Gators (5-4) were defeated 77-73 by No. 5 UConn in Madison Square Garden earlier this week, while George Washington (8-3) fell to Delaware 70-58. Florida is playing its seventh game in 10 this season on a neutral or road court.
The Revolutionaries will be the eighth KenPom top-100 opponent UF will face, the team’s most in regular season nonconference action since 2017-18.
“They play close to four-guard-ish-type players,” Florida coach Todd Golden said. “They spread you out. They’re a good early offense, ball-screen team.
“I made sure the guys understood after the UConn game the other night, when there was some disappointment in the locker room, that if we allow ourselves to sulk, we’re going to get punked on Saturday. This is a really good team. This isn’t a team that we can walk in and just expect to win. We’ve got to play well on Saturday. And I think our guys understand that and respect George Washington.”
George Washington’s top scorer is Rafael Castro, who has averaged 15.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
At 11.2 rebounds per game, Rueben Chinyelu is making an early bid to be the first Gator in 50 years to average in double figures. Through six games, Chinyelu is averaging more than 10 rebounds per game.
