Emma Paton is once again fronting Sky Sports’ coverage of the World Darts Championship.

The biggest tournament in the darting calendar got underway on Thursday, with the sport’s best players set to lock horns for the ultimate prize at Alexandra Palace. The 31-year-old has been a constant in sports media for a number of years.

But she has established herself as the face of darts. She is often praised by fans for her excellent presenting skills and immaculate appearance on air.

She has been plugging away in the industry since 2012, where she secured her first role with Sky Sports. Outside of darts, Paton continues to explore media work in other avenues.

Just this summer, she worked with Sky Sports for their coverage of the US Open tennis, where she interviewed high-profile stars for the Grand Slam event in New York City.

She is also widely known by football fans for her coverage of transfer news on Sky Sports, for which she was nominated for a sports industry award. Still only in her early thirties, Paton has a long career ahead of her.

She’ll likely be the favourite for top jobs in years to come. Paton has followed other inspirational female presenters such as Laura Woods, who is renowned for presenting football on broadcasting giant TNT Sports.

It’s also stunning to see how far Paton has risen in the world of darts despite previously admitting she was only a casual fan of the sport before taking on the role.

However, it’s clear to see how much of a professional Paton is, becoming incredibly knowledgeable in her years since taking on the job and winning over darts fans around the world.

Away from the tele, she likes to put the work in at the gym, as well as taking on pilates classes, keeping her fans in the loop with her fitness journey on social media.

Despite this, physical exercise is not new for Paton, who was once a budding athlete.

As a student at Loughborough University, she was an aspiring 400-metre runner and trained with former Commonwealth Games heptathlon champion Kelly Sotherton.

“Some of the best years of my life were spent training at Loughborough University and mixing with arguably the best 400m runners in the country,” she told the Mirror.

“The coach who had the biggest impact on me was Kelly Sotherton’s first coach, Aston Moore, who is now working with Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

“Kelly was probably coming towards the end of her career in heptathlon because of injuries and focusing more on 400m, and she was dragging me round in training sessions.

“If I ever got close to Kelly, it felt like a win. For a while I was living the life of an elite athlete and they were really good times – some brutal, brutal sessions, but I probably enjoyed the training more than competition.”

Via her Instagram account, Paton gives fans a peek behind the curtain of what it’s like to work as a sports presenter and balance a normal social life with it.

Ahead of this year’s World Darts Championship, she and Mark Webster pranked the world’s best players with a fake interview scenario with an ‘American journalist’.

The presenting duo fed hilarious questions and prompts into the ear of the journalist.

Gerwyn Price, Nathan Aspinall and Luke Humphries were all left bemused when the journalist began asking more outrageous questions.

Aspinall was particularly shocked when Paton and Webster revealed their prank, exclaiming “f****** k******!” when they entered the room.
