Cavs’ Evan Mobley to miss multiple weeks with calf injury

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The injuries keep piling up for the Cavs this season.

The latest came Friday night, as All-Star Evan Mobley suffered a Grade 1 left calf strain that is expected to sideline him for 2-4 weeks.

Following Cleveland’s narrow 130-126 win over the Washington Wizards — a game in which Mobley recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds — the young forward complained of tightness in his calf and underwent initial evaluation by the team’s medical staff. On Saturday, an MRI revealed the full extent of the injury.

Mobley’s calf is just the latest injury setback for the wounded Cavaliers who continue to be without starting center Jarrett Allen (strained finger), Sam Merrill (sprained hand), Max Strus (offseason foot surgery) and Larry Nance Jr. (calf strain) — although Allen is listed as probable for Sunday. Along with them, point guard Darius Garland has already missed 16 games because of injury management related to his big toe and Lonzo Ball still can’t play back-to-backs.

In 25 games this season, Mobley is averaging 19.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.6 blocks while shooting 49.6% from the field and 35.2% from 3-point range.

The Cavs are 15-11, seventh place in the Eastern Conference. They will host Charlotte at Rocket Arena on Sunday afternoon.
