The Rock Honors John Cena, Hails Historic WWE Career in Video Before Icon’s Last Match

WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson honored fellow WWE icon John Cena on social media ahead of Cena’s final match on Saturday.
“John, you epitomize one of my favorite quotes, ‘it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice,'” Johnson wrote in the caption of a video posted on X.
Cena is set to take on Gunther in his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event at Capital One Arena.
Johnson specifically praised Cena’s commitment and passion both in and out of the ring.
“I want to say thank you,” Johnson said. “Thank you so much for your contributions, all of your accomplishments, your passion, your commitment to this wild and crazy world that’s unpredictable.”
He also reminisced on their shared history.
“I feel like you and I have this wild and crazy history and yes, we have spilled blood together in our matches, literally,” Johnson said. “We have torn tendons, literally, in our matches. We’ve broken records. And man, that has been incredible and I’ll always be proud of that, what you and I were able to accomplish together as a team along with the rest of the rosters back during those days. It was awesome. That was rare air that we were able to breathe and I will always be grateful for that.”
The pair famously faced off at WrestleMania 28 and WrestleMania 29 and have clashed with one another several times since, including a brief altercation during the main event of WrestleMania 40.
The Rock also held a large role early in Cena’s retirement tour, influencing his heel turn at Elimination Chamber in March by turning him against Cody Rhodes.
With one match remaining for Cena in his historic career, Johnson celebrated his wrestling journey.
