The “Perfect” Sci-Fi Series That’s “One of the Best Shows on Television” Continues to Dominate on Streaming

One of the best and most mind-bending sci-fi shows in recent years is continuing its quest for total domination on the streaming charts. Apple TV+ might not be the biggest streaming service with the most expansive library, but it definitely produces some of the best sci-fi. 2025 saw the release of Murderbot, which joined the likes of Silo, For All Mankind, Foundation, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and See on the streamer. But, undoubtedly, its biggest and best sci-fi show so far is none other than Severance, and it’s proving its popularity on the streaming charts.

To call Severance Apple TV+’s most popular show would be an understatement. At the time of writing, Severance has remained in AppleTV+’s Top 10 chart for 651 days. That’s nearly two years! The only show that has remained in Apple TV+’s chart for longer is Ted Lasso at 683 days (again, at the time of writing). Admittedly, Apple TV+’s chart doesn’t have the same scale of competition as the likes of Netflix or Prime Video, which release multiple new shows every day. But to hold its own against the likes of Silo, Murderbot, and some other amazing sci-fi shows for so long is an impressive feat.

Just in case your annoying coworker hasn’t talked your ear off about Severance, allow us. The series was created by Dan Erickson and executive-produced and directed by Ben Stiller. Adam Scott stars as Mark Scout, an employee of Lumon Industries who has undergone the controversial procedure known as Severance, which separates your memories from your personal life and your professional life. But, after running into one of his former colleagues on the outside, Mark’s eyes are opened to the dangerous world of Severance and Lumon Industries. The official synopsis reads:

“Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives; when a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs.”

‘Severance’ Season 3 Is In the Works

Apple TV+

It should come as no surprise that Severance was renewed for a third season by Apple TV+. Season 2 debuted in 2025, running for 10 episodes. The second season garnered phenomenal reviews, earning a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “Everything was perfect,” wrote one RT user, while another called it “one of the best shows on television.” The series even revived the concept of water-cooler talk, which mysteriously went extinct when Game of Thrones‘ final season failed to stick the landing.

Not only is Season 3 in the works, but it recently received its biggest update yet. Fans now know when the third season will begin shooting, which allows us to guess at a release date. Season 3 will begin production in April 2026. As a result, Season 3 is expected to be released sometime in 2027. The full cast list hasn’t been revealed yet, but Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and the other surviving members of the Macro Data Refinement team are all expected to return.
