Storms split the nation as heat, hail and snow hit Australia

Severe weather is set to divide the country, with December heat driving fire warnings in the west while rain, storms and cold air impact the east and south.

Brisbane is forecast to reach 29 degrees with rain expected to continue as showers linger across southeast Queensland.

Sydney will see a warm 31 degrees with wet showers developing, adding to humid and unsettled conditions along the east coast.

Sky News Weather Meteorologist Marina Neuman said “still some showers sticking around after Sunday for many parts of the country”, warning the wet pattern is slow to clear.

Canberra is in for more settled conditions this weekend, with clearer weather expected to bring a calmer week for the capital.

Melbourne’s outlook remains unstable, with changing conditions bringing 26 degrees, storms on Saturday and gusty winds on Sunday.

Perth is set to bake under extreme heat, with temperatures soaring to 40 degrees alongside the chance of storms and winds across parts of Western Australia.

Hobart is bracing for a cold blast as Christmas fast approaches, with temperatures around 16 degrees and a chance of snowfall as very cold air moves in.

Adelaide will reach 23 degrees on Sunday before heat builds through the end of next week, increasing fire risk across South Australia.

Neuman said the Top End will remain unsettled with Darwin to reach 33, describing conditions as “stormy and typical for this time of the year.”

Across southern Australia, storms and showers are expected to continue as unstable weather sweeps through the region.

Elevated fire danger warnings are in place for multiple states as temperatures soar in South Australia and Western Australia.

Neuman said rain is expected to linger for several days, with wet conditions continuing across the east.
