Crystal Palace vs Manchester City preview
Manchester City have had their fair share of problems against Crystal Palace in recent times, most notably losing 1-0 in last season’s FA Cup final, but the Citizens are hitting top stride and can overcome the tricky test at Selhurst Park.
Pep Guardiola’s side oozed class in Wednesday’s high-profile 2-1 success at Real Madrid, winning the shots-on-target count 8-1, which suggested that they are firmly back in control of their emotions after a brief wobble.
The Citizens were involved in a couple of chaotic league wins, beating Leeds 3-2 and Fulham 5-4, before last weekend’s routine 3-0 victory at home to Sunderland and that means they have been successful in 11 of their last 14 matches.
City are right in the thick of the title race and they should be determined to showcase their credentials at Palace, who started the weekend in fourth and only five points behind the visitors.
However, Palace have largely struggled to produce their best stuff following a midweek Conference League clash. Three days on from a Thursday fixture in Europe, the Eagles have been beaten at Everton and Arsenal while also losing at home to Manchester United and being held to a draw by Brighton.
Oliver Glasner’s men have won only two of their seven home league games, drawing on four occasions, and they will be desperate to have star attackers Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr both fit for the challenge.
City are at their most vulnerable away from the Etihad against teams who possess pace on the counter-attack. But they have scored 35 goals in 15 league games and may simply have too much firepower for the Eagles with phenomenon Erling Haaland ably assisted by the rejuvenated Phil Foden and the frightening Jeremy Doku.
Dazzling Doku to cause pain for Clyne
With Daniel Munoz injured and Justin Devenny suffering a knock late on in Thursday’s win at Shelbourne, Nathaniel Clyne looks likely to get the nod at right-back and he could face an arduous task against Doku.
The Belgian winger has really come of age this season and he terrorised Real Madrid’s defence on Wednesday, drawing three fouls.
Doku has been fouled 25 time in 15 league games and he should be able to exploit any rustiness in Clyne, who has played only 106 minutes of first-team action since the end of August.
O’Reilly looking the real deal
Nico O’Reilly grabbed City’s equaliser in their midweek victory at the Bernabeu and his desire to get forward from full-back could make him a strong scoring candidate at Selhurst Park.
The 20-year-old looks a real star in City’s ranks and he has had 11 shots in 14 Premier League appearances, which featured a goal in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth in November.
O’Reilly has had five shots in his last four outings and his athleticism adds to City’s array of attacking options.

Both teams to score
The net has bulged at both ends in five of the last six Premier League meetings between the pair and City were 5-4 winners in their last away league game at Fulham.
Jeremy Doku to be fouled two or more times
The Belgian was fouled three times in Wednesday’s win at Real Madrid and has drawn 11 fouls in his last five Premier League appearances.
Phil Foden anytime goalscorer
The England international has rediscovered his spark and has scored five goals in his last three Premier League starts.
