Dungeons & Dragons: Warlock Is A Magic-Focused Adventure Set In The World Of D&D

In the lead-up to The Game Awards, Wizards of the Coast teased a new trailer for Exodus, the space-opera RPG under development at Archetype Studios. However, WOTC had another trick for the show up its sleeve, as Dungeons & Dragons: Warlock made a surprise debut.

D&D Warlock is a third-person action-adventure game being developed by Invoke Studios, formerly Tuque Studios, in Montreal. In it, players will assume the role of Katri, a warlock who has made a pact with an otherworldly being in order to gain access to powerful magic.

As such, Warlock will focus heavily on “immersive, expressive magic,” according to Invoke Studios head Jeff Hattem during a recent media briefing. Players will use spells to battle monsters, solve puzzles and other challenges in the environment, and more.

The team at Invoke is also taking strides to separate Warlock from other D&D-adjacent games like Baldur’s Gate III, which means players should not expect a similar style here. “Our focus is making a video game first: an immersive, single-player, open world experience,” Invoke general manager Dominic Guay said during the briefing. “We’re not trying to simulate the tabletop RPG experience, so we won’t have things like dice rolling or anything like that.”

Warlock is not Invoke Studio’s first crack at D&D, as the team developed Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance in 2021 under its former name Tuque.

Dungeons & Dragons Warlock is set to launch in 2027. The first gameplay reveal has also been scheduled for Summer 2026, though no concrete date was announced. For more on The Game Awards, check out the full list of winners and nominees.
