Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for remaining South Africa T20Is to provided in ‘due course’, says BCCI

Ace India fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah has returned home from Dharamshala due to “personal reasons” and is thus sitting out the third T20I against South Africa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement that it will provide an update on his availability for the rest of the series “in due course”.

“Jasprit Bumrah has gone back home for personal reasons and will be unavailable for the game. An update on him joining the squad for the remaining matches will be provided in due course,” said the BCCI in a statement that it put out shortly after India captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bowl first. Suryakumar had mentioned that Bumrah is sitting out of this game due to personal reasons. Meanwhile, the BCCI also said that all-rounder Axar Patel is sitting out due to illness.

“We’ve made two forced changes. Axar Patel misses out as he’s unwell, and Jasprit Bumrah misses out due to personal reasons back home. Harshit Rana comes in, and Kuldeep Yadav comes in,” Suryakumar had said at the toss.

Rana has helped India get off to an explosive start to the match, dismissing Quinton de Kock and Dewald Brevis in his first two overs to leave South Africa with a score of 7/3 at the start of the fourth over of their innings. Arshdeep Singh had earlier dismissed Reeza Hendricks in the first over of the match.

Bumrah had travelled with the squad to Dharamshala. The 32-year-old sat out the three-match ODI series that preceded the ongoing T20I rubber. He picked two wickets in the first T20I, thus taking his career tally in the format to 101. Bumrah had also played in both Tests that South Africa played in the first leg of the tour, with the visitors stunningly winning both to record a 2-0 whitewash on India.
