Sheffield United are in pole position to land Joe Rothwell in January.
The English Championship side is pushing to land the Rangers midfielder and other key targets to get up the table and back into the promotion picture. United are confident of getting a deal done when the window opens to bring the 30-year-old to Bramall Lane.
Rothwell has a wealth of experience in the Championship, where he won the title with Leeds United and helped Southampton with the play-off. He moved north from Bournemouth in the summer to work under Russell Martin.
Martin only lasted a few months before he exited. New boss Danny Rohl has come in and left Rothwell on the fringes.
He is looking to strengthen his squad in January and Rothwell would free up a substantial chunk. Record Sport also previously revealed that Rangers have offered Scotland defender John Souttar a new two-year contract.
Souttar is out of contract in the summer along with captain James Tavernier and Scotland squad keeper Liam Kelly.
