How to get healthcare coverage through DE’s marketplace

Uninsured people in Delaware can access ChooseHealth Delaware, the First State’s official ACA healthcare marketplace portal.

ChooseHealth Delaware connects visitors directly to Healthcare.gov, the federal government’s ACA healthcare marketplace.

According to Helthcare.gov, there are several ways Delawareans can apply for ACA-mandated healthcare: coverage:

  • Online
  • By phone
  • With the help of someone in your community
  • Through an agent/ broker
  • Through certified enrollment partner websites
  • With a paper application

Healthcare.gov outlines three steps you should take to obtain healthcare coverage through its marketplace:

  1. Compare plans and get a quote
  2. Apply for coverage
  3. Pay your first month’s premium

Documents you’ll need to apply for healthcare coverage in DE

You’ll need to gather several documents and provide pieces of information before you can apply for healthcare in Delaware through Healthcare.gov:

  • Photo identification
  • Social Security number
  • Last four pay stubs
  • Most recent tax returns

You may also be required to submit information regarding immigration status, HRA arrangements and additional information related to household members.

Can I apply for healthcare coverage after the deadline?

You may qualify to apply for federally-mandated healthcare coverage during the Special Enrollment Period, which generally extends the deadline.

Qualifying life events for Special Enrollment Period consideration include childbirth; relocation; divorce; death in the family and loss of previously-held healthcare coverage.
