Peter Gabriel has director Josh Safdie for including his song ‘I Have the Touch’ in his upcoming A24 movie, Marty Supreme.
Safdie’s upcoming movie, starring Timothée Chalamet, is set to be released in cinemas in the US on December 25th and December 26th in the UK.
Now, less than two weeks before it arrives in theatres, Gabriel took to his website to write, “I was delighted that ‘I Have the Touch‘ was chosen for the soundtrack of Marty Supreme. The song is rarely asked out for a dance and I have always loved table tennis. Now there seems to be a real buzz about the film.”
He also shared his secret love of ping-pong, adding: “On tour we always have a table backstage for any of the crew or band to jump on.”
Gabriel then broke the news that two other classic 1980s tracks will be setting the scene in Marty Supreme, which are the Korgis’ ‘Everybody’s Got to Learn Sometime’ and Tears for Fears’ ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’.
The film, starring Chalamet, is loosely based on table tennis player Marty Reisman’s memoirs, The Money Player. In the movie, the star plays Marty Mauser, who is on the pursuit of following his dreams in table tennis. Gwyneth Paltrow also stars as the wife of a rival player, who becomes romantically entangled with Mauser.
The role, which has already created buzz for Chalamet during awards season, has been a passion project for the New Yorker over the past seven years, who travelled everywhere with a ping-pong table during that time.
He recently revealed, “Everything I was working on, it was this secret: I had a table in London while I was making Wonka. On Dune 2, I had a table in Budapest, Jordan. I had a table in Abu Dhabi.”
Despite the film not yet being released in cinemas, Chalamet has already been nominated for ‘Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy’ at the Golden Globes in 2026.
