Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes left Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers late in the fourth quarter with a left knee injury. He was evaluated in the blue tent before being helped to the locker room. He’s played the last two weeks with a left knee injury.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Mahomes will undergo an MRI on Sunday night or Monday.
When asked if he fears Mahomes’ injury is serious, Reid said, “I don’t know, but, I mean, it didn’t look good. We’ll see where it goes.”
Mahomes needed help getting up and was heavily limping on the sideline after getting hit by Chargers defensive end Da’Shawn Hand. Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew entered the game with the Chiefs trailing 16-13 and threw an interception to Derwin James to seal Los Angeles’ win.
With the loss, the Chiefs have been eliminated from postseason contention for the first time since 2014.
