2025’s New Sci-Fi Masterpiece is Now Apple’s Most Viewed Show Ever (& There’s More To Come)

Before the season even ended, this new hit show from Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad, has smashed records and even successfully dethroned Apple TV‘s darling, Succession. It’s been an impressive development that highlights why Apple has earned its place as a streaming giant, putting out shows that are nothing short of incredible (Ted Lasso, Silo, and Dickenson, to name a few). Even more stunning is the fact that it did so after just seven episodes—with two more yet to come in Season 1.

We can only be talking about the show-stopping sci-fi masterpiece that is Pluribus. Starring Rhea Seahorn and Karolina Wydra, the show centers around author Carol Sturka (Seehorn), who finds herself isolated after some sort of alien virus takes over humanity, transforming her fellow humans into a tranquil hivemind—one that now seeks to assimilate Carol and other scattered, immune individuals. Or, as the official summary so succinctly puts it: “The most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness.”

Pluribus Is Nothing Short Of Iconic

With a 98% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, on top of its now record-breaking status as the most-watched show in Apple history, Pluribus is one of the best shows to drop in years. “Gilligan skillfully manipulates (and manipulates us, too) tropes, tones, and digressions so that each episode, almost every plot twist, becomes a new and unexpected audiovisual event,” says Joan Pons of Fotogramas. And Melanie Farland of Salon rates the show a 4 out of 5 stars, saying, “No matter where you sit on these spectrums, there’s a strain within Pluribus that speaks directly to your feelings, much like the disembodied voices on Carol’s phone that cheerily ask her what she needs whenever she picks up her handset.”

And, surprising no one, a second season of Pluribus has already been greenlit with a potential mid-2027 release date, promising to bring with it more of the same character-driven depth and plot insanity that made the first season such a smash success. We already know that with time, Vince Gilligan only gets better and better, a fact highlighted by both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul—absolute slam dunks, with the former being lauded as one of the best television shows of all time. Gilligan has teased the idea of the show having a total of 4 seasons, but says ultimately, that is in the hands of Rhea Seahorn.
