Starting quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 14 and backup Riley Leonard injured his knee in the loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Those injuries put the team in a precarious position entering the final four weeks of the regular season.
The Colts reacted with a shocking move, signing quarterback Philip Rivers out of retirement and signing him to the active 53-man roster on Saturday, paving the way for him to make his first NFL start in five years.
If he sees the field, the 44-year-old signal-caller will take his first snaps in the NFL since he did so with the Colts in 2020, where he led them to the playoffs.
His first assignment comes against one of the top defenses in the league on the road in the Seattle Seahawks (10-3).
