Dexter: Original Sin Season 2 Will Still Happen “If Paramount Is Smart About It,” Says Franchise Director

Known for directing many Dexter episodes in the original series, as well as New Blood and Resurrection, Marcos Siega has revealed exactly how our favorite anti-hero will return in the canceled prequel Dexter: Original Sin if Paramount is “smart about it.”

During his appearance on the podcast, The Dark Passengers: A Dexter Podcast, hosted by Jack and Diana Pesin, Siega spoke about the canceled prequel, which showed a young Dexter Morgan (played by Patrick Gibson) as he learnt the tricks of the trade and how to get away with murder. Siega shocked the audience when he said the prequel may not be so dead after all:

“I heard it might be coming back. You heard it here first.”

During the conversation, Siega expressed his need for fan momentum, which would help the Dexter universe grow and thrive. He also shared hopes of creating the long-awaited Trinity Killer prequel and hinted that Paramount should really consider the possibilities. The main petition to revive Original Sin has surpassed 100,000 signatures in a month, but Paramount has yet to address the uproar.

Dexter: Original Sin, released in 2024 and created by Clyde Phillips, was highly-rated, and with the release of Resurrection, felt like the perfect Dexter fix for all the fans worldwide. Unfortunately, after only one season, Paramount announced its cancellation, much to everyone’s shock. The series had a fantastic cast, including Christian Slater as Harry Morgan, Molly Brown as a young Debra Morgan, and Patrick Dempsey as Captain Aaron Spencer.

The prequel series has an impressive 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was praised for the casting and acting throughout the first season. Originally, Paramount had stated in April, a few months after the show’s debut, it would be renewing Original Sin for season 2, but it didn’t take long for the dream to be snatched away.

Luckily, the show’s creators and cast are not giving up so easily. The finale set up a great second season and was open enough to see more of the downfall of Harry Morgan, as well as Dexter becoming more refined during his killings. Creator Phillips stated on a podcast titled Dissecting Dexter, “I had informed all the writers and actors, and then they unpicked it up, all while picking up Resurrection, which was no surprise. It wasn’t handled well, and I’m not happy about it.”

Perhaps Siega’s plans will come to fruition, and fans will finally get their answer, but unfortunately, there are no announcements as of yet if we will see Gibson reprise his role in Dexter: Original Sin.
