Last week’s IT: Welcome to Derry ended with the U.S. military making the colossally boneheaded decision to free Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) from his immortal prison. The liberated It’s first target? None other than Will Hanlon (Blake Cameron James). The final shot we saw in last week’s installment of the HBO hit confirmed that Will — like Ingrid Kersh (Madeleine Stowe) — had been placed under the control of the dreaded Deadlights. So can Will still be saved? Can Pennywise be defeated? What will happen in the next episode of IT: Welcome to Derry?
IT: Welcome to Derry is a prequel series to Andy Muschietti‘s popular film adaptations of Stephen King’s It. The first season of the HBO show has delved into what happened in Derry a generation before the Loser’s Club met Pennywise. Apparently, Admiral Francis Shaw (James Remar) had an encounter with It as a child and that gave him the bright idea of using the cosmic force to control the American public with fear. Little does he know that you can’t control this sort of Eldritch horror.
Meanwhile, Pennywise has been terrorizing and devouring local children. The racist locals have decided to blame this carnage on theater manager Hank Grogan (Stephen Rider), creating a tinder box of bigotry that blew up last week in “The Black Spot.”
So what’s going to happen next? How will our heroes save Will Hanlon so he can become Mike Hanlon’s dad? Will we see how Dick Hallorann (Chris Chalk) becomes the hero we meet in The Shining? Will There Be an IT: Welcome to Derry Season 2?
We don’t yet know for sure if there will be a second season of IT: Welcome to Derry, but there is still plenty of lore for the HBO show to mine. We still don’t know exactly what went down with the Bradley Gang in the 1930s and the opening credits tease the 1906 Kitchener Ironworks explosion, which killed over 102 Derry residents who were trying to enjoy an Easter egg hunt.
