For the fourth time in a decade, wool from Central Oregon’s Shaniko Wool Co. will be used to keep U.S. Winter Olympic athletes warm.
The wool was knitted and woven+ in the U.S. Winter Olympic team’s sweaters, coats, hats and pants designed by Ralph Lauren.
“We are honored to be a part of the Ralph Lauren Team USA uniform program,” said Jeanne Carver, owner of Shaniko Wool Company. “It’s a proud day for American wool. It fills us with pride, elevates our work and shines a light on the largely forgotten traditions of raising sheep and harvesting fiber.”
Shaniko Wool, located northeast of Madras, was among the fiber providers used by Ralph Lauren in 2014, 2018, 2022 and now for the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic games. Shaniko Wool is a farm group established by Carver to continue the work of Imperial Stock Ranch.
The company was also selected as a fiber contributor in the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, according to Ralph Lauren.
The clothing company has sourced its American-raised wool from Shaniko Wool Co., group of farms in the United States. The clothing company uses wool raised in America that met the Responsible Wool Standard certification, which meant standard industry practices for the treatment of animals and the land they graze on.
Imperial Stock Ranch is a 32,000-acre Central Oregon ranch that was founded in 1871 and at one time spanned from Shaniko to La Pine. The ranch raised sheep and cattle and farms hay and grains throughout its history and was originally named by Richard R. Hinton.
“Textiles have been the fabric of America since our beginning,” Carver said. “Those connections inspire stewardship and foster a deeper sense of community and purpose. It makes us all better and stronger.”
