Montgomery County Public Schools announced Sunday evening that it will operate under a Code Yellow for Monday, Dec. 15, meaning a two-hour delayed opening for schools and offices.
In the announcement, MCPS wrote, “MCPS is Code Yellow: Delayed Opening for Monday, Dec. 15, with schools and offices opening two hours late. Morning, all-day, and after-school childcare programs may operate as scheduled; families are encouraged to check directly with their childcare provider.”
The delay comes after uneven snowfall across the county and a rapid temperature drop Sunday, which raised concerns about icy conditions, particularly on side streets, sidewalks, and untreated areas. While many main roads are in good shape, lingering snow in parts of the county combined with a fast freeze created potential hazards for the Monday morning commute.
