Canadiens’ Mike Matheson to miss game against Flyers with upper-body injury

Matheson, 31, had yet to miss a game this season, appearing in all 32 contests while recording four goals and 12 assists, going plus-seven and averaging 24:54 of ice time.

A native of Pointe-Claire, Que., Matheson signed a five-year, $30-million contract extension with the Canadiens in November.

Meanwhile, rookie goalie Jacob Fowler will make his third career start — and first in Montreal — after he was recalled from the American Hockey League’s Laval Rocket one week ago.

The 21-year-old American made 36 saves in his debut, helping the Canadiens win 4-2 over the Pittsburgh Penguins last Thursday.

He then lost his first game Saturday as Montreal squandered a 3-0 lead in a 5-4 overtime defeat to the New York Rangers.

Montreal enters Tuesday’s matchup third in the Atlantic Division with a 17-11-4 record. Philadelphia, meanwhile, will be looking to break a three-game losing streak.
