Dry and sunny start to the week – but Met Éireann says more wet weather on the way

7-Day Weather Forecast: December 13th to 19th

After a weekend of weather warnings, this week will kick off with a couple of dry and sunny days before more wet and windy weather arrives.

Today will be mostly dry and bright or sunny after mist and fog clears in the morning. The west will enjoy the best of the sunshine, though there will be a few showers on the west coast.

Highest temperatures today will be between 6 and 10C.

There may be some frost on what will be a chilly night as temperatures drop to lows of 0 to 4C. It will stay dry overnight and some mist and fog may build up again.

Tomorrow will again be sunny and dry with just a few showers in counties along the west coast, but cloud will start to build up towards the nighttime, with highs of 4 to 9C.

Cloud will spread across the country tomorrow night, bringing rain and drizzle. Lowest temperatures will be between 1 and 4C.

Wednesday will see the brief period of dry weather come to an end, though there will be sunny spells mixed with showers. It will be slightly milder, with highs of 10 to 13C.

Details for Thursday are still uncertain, Met Éireann said, but the forecast shows more wet and windy weather. There will be persistent rain, turning heavy at times, during the morning and afternoon.

This will be followed by showers coming from the Atlantic, some turning heavy with a chance of hail or thunderstorms. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10C.

Sunny spells and scattered showers are currently forecast for Friday, though it will be drier day overall, with highs of 7 to 10C.

Met Éireann has forecast the unsettled conditions to continue into the weekend as more rain and showers are expected, but there are signs conditions will improve in the early part of next week.
